Saudi Pro League club Al-Ettifaq has allocated approximately $5 million from its current budget to renew the contracts of two foreign players: Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and Scottish defender Jack Hendry, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiyah.
Club sources told the outlet that Al-Ettifaq has submitted renewal proposals to both players and is awaiting their responses. Wijnaldum has reportedly been offered a $3 million deal for one season, while Hendry’s proposal stands at $2 million, also for a one-year extension.
The sources added that Al-Ettifaq has completed overall budget planning and hopes to finalize the contract renewals for the two key foreign players as soon as possible to maintain squad stability and prepare for the upcoming season.
Both Wijnaldum and Hendry joined Al-Ettifaq in the summer 2023 transfer window. Wijnaldum arrived from French club Paris Saint-Germain, while Hendry came from Belgian side Club Brugge. Their original contracts were for three years, set to run until the summer of 2026.
The signings were made on the recommendation of then-head coach Steven Gerrard, who guided the club’s recruitment strategy during his tenure, focusing on players with top European league experience to boost the team’s overall competitiveness.
