Yuki Yanagita of the SoftBank Hawks became the 213th player in NPB history to reach 1,500 career games played. However, the milestone moment was overshadowed by his frustration with his own performance just before receiving the commemorative board.
In a Pacific League game against the Seibu Lions on May 12, Yanagita stepped onto the field for his 1,500th regular-season appearance. Despite the achievement, he showed visible disappointment over his immediate play, which included a hit-by-pitch that disrupted the team’s momentum.
Yanagita made his NPB debut in 2011 as a pinch runner for Alex Cabrera. Over the years, he has become one of the league’s most feared hitters, leading the Hawks to multiple Japan Series titles.
The game ended with SoftBank losing 3-0 to Seibu, and Yanagita’s frustration reflected his competitive drive.
This milestone adds to his legacy as a key figure in SoftBank’s dynasty, but for Yanagita, the night was more about what could have been than personal history.
