Former Russian Premier League referee Igor Fedotov shared his thoughts on the officiating of the 29th-round match of the 2025/2026 RPL season between Zenit and Sochi. The St. Petersburg side won 2-1, with Rafael Shafeev serving as the referee.

Zenit (St. Petersburg) — Sochi (Sochi)
Final score: 2:1
Scorers: Fyodorov (31′ own goal), Enrique (59′), Erokhin (84′)
“In the 12th minute, Shafeev correctly awarded a penalty against Sochi. However, some people questioned this decision. The key point is that Fyodorov caught Glushenkov with his thigh. Many believe he simply placed his leg parallel and the Zenit player fell on his own. That’s not true. Fyodorov disrupted Glushenkov’s rhythm, and it was a clear foul — this is clearly visible from the lower camera angle. It was a proper penalty. Shafeev was in the recommended position and controlled the duel,” Fedotov said in an interview with Championat correspondent Mikhail Rozhdestvensky.
