


A recap of the 3A baseball state tournament games played on Monday at Lindquist Field highlights four dominant performances by top seeds.
**Grantsville 11, Emery 1**
Payton Cummings drove the No. 2 seed Cowboys’ potent offense, going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and five RBIs, as Grantsville dispatched No. 10 seed Emery 11-1 in the opening round of the 3A bracket play. The game was tied 0-0 until the third inning, when Grantsville exploded for six runs. They added three in the fourth and two more in the sixth. Patton Rose also contributed, going 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Emery’s only run came in the third inning, but Grantsville pitcher Jordan Fawson held them in check, striking out 10 over 5⅓ innings. The Cowboys collected seven extra-base hits. Both teams return to action Tuesday.
**Carbon 13, Logan 3**
Logan Bennett powered No. 11 seed Carbon to a 13-3 win over No. 14 seed Logan, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, and three RBIs. The Dinos scored three runs across the second and third innings, then broke the game open with an eight-run fifth. Ricky Sandoval also shined, going 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Logan managed three runs late but could not slow Carbon’s attack. Both teams head back to Lindquist Field for the next round.
**Union 14, Providence Hall 0**
Tyson Marx starred for Union, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks, leading the Cougars to a 14-0 shutout against Providence Hall in the 3A opener. Dylan Watahomigie pitched efficiently, needing only 50 pitches over four innings. Union capitalized on Providence Hall errors, scoring 12 runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth. The Cougars’ defense allowed just two hits and committed no errors, showcasing complete control.
**Canyon View 1, Manti 0**
Zach Maine delivered a masterful complete-game shutout for Canyon View, striking out 11 and allowing only three hits in a 1-0 victory over Manti. The game’s lone run came in the top of the sixth inning when Owen Williams drove in Preston Higgins with a crucial RBI. Manti pitchers Spencer Robbins and Zach Blackham combined to allow just two hits, but Maine’s performance on the mound was the difference. The Falcons advance in the winners bracket.
All four winning teams continue their pursuit of the 3A state title in the next round of bracket play.
